“We all must start somewhere, for an idea to bloom into reality”

After having 2 babies just shy of 19 months apart, family life was well and truly the priority. After an extended (double) maternity leave I was desperate to enjoy the bustle of working life again but knew that hospitality & the anti-social hours that came with it, was not the life I wanted to give our young family. The pull of having a people facing role but the desperation to be creative again got me thinking about how I could bag my dream job. The answer was easy - start my very own business where I can create beautiful things for people, their loved ones & their homes.

But where did the flowers come from?

Being pregnant whilst caring for a toddler, at a time when the world was just waking up from the pandemic, left me without many places to go or things to do. I found a weekly dose of joy by visiting a local florist, choosing individual stems & taking them home to arrange. Some weeks just a few, others armfuls combined with foraged foliage. Our Seaford home has a glorious garden bursting with treasures left by the previous owner to cut from too.

The first time I left my daughter with someone while I did something for the first time without children was to attend an Autumn wreath class. Creating a gorgeous bespoke arrangement, I was truly in my happy place, and I had to question why wasn’t I doing this my whole life?

The decision was made and I enrolled onto an intensive course with the absolute best in the business - Georgia at The Sussex Flower School.

Upon completing my training, I converted our conservatory from play room to studio where Scentiment was born. I worked tirelessly between running our home, caring for our toddler & baby. Trying to squeeze in as much work as I could to build my brand based on sentimental gifting & nostalgia. Many gift bouquets, a handful of wonderful families entrusting me with their loved one’s funeral flowers, some beautiful couples hiring me to flower their weddings & a whole lot of wreath making later, I soon realised that the juggling wasn’t quite sensible and I longed for more interaction with people on a day to day basis - I needed a shop!

I’m Jade, the florist building the Scentiment brand.

My passion in life has always been to create. A huge part of my schooling spent delicately sculpting clay or experimenting in the darkroom has given me some of my favourite memories. Essex born, I moved to Brighton to follow dreams of a career in photography & art, that typically turned into working all the hours in hospitality to fund. Unexpectedly, I fell in love with a career in service and people which in turn, led me to fall for my partner, resulting in our beautiful family. The five of us & a cat, now settled just on the edge of Seaford, East Sussex. I adore where we live and feel so lucky to have both coastal beauty and gorgeous countryside on our doorstep!
